A mixed bag
Staff Reporter
Pudukottai: The District Chairman of Farmers’ Forum of India, G. S. Dhanapathy, has termed the waiver of crop loans for the small and marginal farmers in the Union Budget as a ‘welcome move.’ The proposals for special schemes through the National Horticultural Mission and Indian Council of Agricultural Research would help foster agricultural growth across the country.
He, however, said that farmers were disappointed over the absence of any announcement on downward revision of agricultural loans from the present seven per cent.
Mr. Dhanapathy said that the release of subsidy on fertilisers to the companies too had disappointed the farming community. Instead, the benefits of the subsidy should be passed on to the agriculturists.
