CHENNAI: Fearing near relegation at one stage, SBI made a splendid recovery to sign off from the season’s CFA senior division football league with a creditable 1-0 win over Chennai Customs here on Friday. The shock defeat put Customs, which also finished its engagements, one point behind SBI’s 15 in the league table. Sabeeth brought the win for SBI in the 31st minute when he cut in with Riju’s pass to lure out goalkeeper Anil Kumar and placed the ball in style. SBI was earlier lucky that Customs missed a penalty when Chendur shot out. The penalty was given after Shamjid brought down Satishkumar in the danger area. In another match, SAI was held to a 1-1 draw by Tamil Nadu Special Police. K. Mohan put SAI in the lead in the 73rd minute, but in two minutes TSP equalised through Vijayanand. TSP completed its engagements with 15 points. SAI is also on 15 points, but has one more match. There is no senior division match on Saturday. The match involving AG’s Office and MSU will be played on March 2. — Special Correspondent
