Third phase of Classmate programme begins

Paloli inaugurates distribution of infrastructure to schools

MALAPPURAM: The third phase of the Classmate Education Programme, aimed at strengthening primary education in the district by providing as well as enhancing basic infrastructure, began at Mankada block, near here, on Saturday.

Local Self-government Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty launched the programme at A.L.P. School, Pathiramanna.

He inaugurated distribution of infrastructure such as benches, desks, shelves, tables and chairs to different schools and notebooks to primary children. Beena Sunny, president of Puzhakkattiri grama panchayat, presided over the function.

Nibu Jose, area manager of ITC, handed over the furniture to schools. M.P. Antoni, project director of Rajagiri-CASP, presented a report. K.E. Salomy, school headmistress, welcomed the gathering. A. Dinesh, community organiser of the Classmate Education Programme, proposed the vote of thanks.

The project’s third phase will be launched at Perumpadappu block on Sunday. Mr. Mohammed Kutty will inaugurate it at A.L.P. School, Chiyanur, Edappal, on Sunday afternoon. E.G. Narendan, president of Perumpadappu block panchayat, will preside over the function. Fr. Jose Alex, director of Rajagiri Foundation, will be the chief guest.

The Classmate Education Programme, sponsored by ITC, aims at upgrading the infrastructure of primary schools in the district in years.

It also aims at strengthening the link between the schools and Parent-Teachers Associations (PTAs) to improve the quality of education.

The project has already spent Rs.60 lakh in the district. Child-friendly school camps, awareness classes for parents and painting competitions for primary children were held at many places as part of the project.
