Exhibition of handloom products inaugurated

CHENNAI: A 10-day exhibition-cum sale, sponsored by the Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India (CCIC), was inaugurated at Sankara Hall here on Saturday by Handloom Export Promotion Council Executive Director G. Mathivathanan.
The aim of the exhibition is to encourage Indian craftsmen and give them an access to wider market for their products both at home and abroad, according to M. Anantharaj, Additional General Manager.
Exclusive handicraft and handloom products from all over the country are on display.
The exhibits include sandalwood miniature carvings, made by a national award winner, rosewood artefact, including dining tables, wall panels and swings, silk pitchwai paintings from Udaipur, Thanjavur paintings, Raja Ravi Varma reproductions, jewellery made of silver, terracotta, pearls, brass, and coconut shell, wooden toys from Channapatna, eco-friendly jute products and artistically carved wooden pieces.
Orders from customers are also accepted for supply of goods as per their requirements.
Exhibits ranging from Rs. 50 to Rs. 3 lakh per piece are available.
Last year’s revenue
Last year the show earned revenue of Rs. 18 lakh and this year it was estimated to fetch Rs. 20 lakh to 25 lakh, Mr. Anantharaj said.
