Ex-scientist robbed

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A gang of dacoits wielding sticks took away gold jewellery worth Rs. 3 lakh and Rs. 6,000 after raiding a house at Suryanagar of Uppal in the wee hours of Saturday.

The house owner Upender Raval, 62, is a retired scientist of the National Geophysical Research Institute. The senior citizen, his wife Anjana Raval and their two daughters were asleep when the offenders sneaked inside by removing the window grills of the house facing main road around 3 a.m.

While six of them entered the house, the remaining stood guard outside.

The dacoits woke up the old couple and threatened to kill them if they raised an alarm asking where the jewellery was kept. Later, they collected cash and gold ornaments from the almirahs, warned the family against calling up the police or neighbours and walked away. The offenders spoke in Hindi and were clad in trousers and shirts, the Uppal Inspector Bhaskar said.
