VIZIANAGARAM: Telugu Desam Party has demanded that Vizianagaram Municipality should release a white paper on its financial position as it failed to clear power bills to the tune of Rs.71 lakhs to APTransco and also settle bills of sanitation contractors for the last 11 months. The power supply to the civic body was cut on Friday evening for the same reason, according to TDP floor leader in Municipal Council V.S. Prasad. At a press conference on Saturday, Dr. Prasad said the government had been releasing non-planning grant without deducting the power bills at source but the civic body failed to meet the expenditure due to lack of foresight. Power bill arrearsIn addition to the power bill arrears the municipality must have to pay over Rs. 50 lakhs to sanitation contractors. That apart, civil works contractors were not coming forward to execute works already sanctioned in wards due to paucity of general funds, he said and added that the ‘financial mismanagement’ pushed the civic body into a debt trap. He claimed that the TDP handed over the civic body to the Congress with surplus grants. He said that the TDP had been cautioning the municipality in this regard but it went unheeded. Dr. Prasad criticised the Chairperson for finalising Indiramma committees in wards represented by TDP without the knowledge of THE councillors. Councillors B. Appa Rao, A. Vasudev, and others were present.
