Chitradurga: Several doctors have protested against the alleged assault on a doctor, Rangegowda, by three persons at Parashurampur community health centre in Challakere taluk on February 27. A delegation of doctors which met Deputy Commissioner Amlan Aditya Biswas at the public grievance meeting here on Saturday, said that doctors were finding it difficult to work in rural areas following “unruly” behaviour by some people. Dr. Rangegowda said thaton February 27, a woman complaining of stomach ache had come for a check-up to the centre. During the diagnosis, he asked her some questions to ascertain the cause of the pain. “I was asking the patient some common questions, when the three persons who had come with the patient got offended and began using abusive words. They questioned my professionalism, dragged me out of the room and tried to manhandle me,” he said. When Mr. Biswas asked why the three persons were inside the room, the doctors said that some villagers did not trust them. Dr. Rangegowda alleged that the police refused to lodge a complaint stating that they would conciliate with the “miscreants”. It was only the next morning that the police took down the complaint, he said. Mr. Biswas urged the Superintendent of Police Labhu Ram to arrest the culprits.
