Petitioner: A disabled man leaving the Vidhana Soudha after attending the Janata Darshan in Bangalore on Saturday. Bangalore: Thirty-seven people with heart disease and 47 with various types of cancer registered their names at Governor Rameshwar Thakur’s Janata Darshan on Saturday for free treatment at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, Narayana Hrudayalaya and the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology. S. Gurumurthy, Officer on Special Duty to the Governor, said that Mohanlal Ranka, trustee of Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, told the Governor that he would donate funds for heart surgery on 100 patients. He presented a cheque for Rs. 5 lakh as a token advance. Dilip Surana of MicroLabs donated Rs. 5 lakh for the treatment of people with cancer. The Governor issued cheques of Rs. 25,000 each to 30 people with heart ailments and cancer to meet their medical expenditure. Already 126 people have undergone heart surgery at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology. The Kidwai hospital has conducted 300 surgeries and Narayana Hrudayalaya has carried out operations on 300 paediatric patients. The parents of seven-month-old Ajay, who came from Annigeri village of Navalgund taluk in Dharwad district, had been advised by doctors at Narayana Hrudayalaya that their child should undergo surgery within two weeks. The parents were asked to meet the officials concerned on March 10, and they were worried whether all the formalities would be completed by then.
