600 physically challenged persons to get artificial limbs

BERHAMPUR: More than 600 physically challenged persons of Ganjam district would be fitted with artificial limbs at a week-long mega health camp to be held in the city from Mar 12.

This health camp is being orgnised by the Ganjam district administration at the Berhampur stadium with the help of the Red Cross Society, Sarva Sikshya Abhiyan and local unit of the Marwari Yuvamanch.

Noted physician and expert of artificial limbs, Birendra Pal and his team would attend this camp to take measurements of the physically challenged persons to get them fitted with most appropriate artificial limbs.

Registration

The premises of this large stadium would be used for the lodging and boarding of physically challenged persons coming to the city to attend this health camp organised for them. Till now around 887 physically challenged persons with missing or deformed limbs have been identified throughout the district. Out of them over 600 persons who would be suitable for the use of artificial limbs would be fitted with tailor-made simulated limbs by the team of experts at the camp. Ganjam district Collector V.K.Pandian is monitoring the preparations for this health camp.

The recently started registration process of physically challenged persons for provision of different benefits declared by the government is almost complete in Ganjam district. The process is completed in 21 out of 22 blocks in the district. Out of the 22,888 physically challenged persons registered in the district till date, 17,149 have already received identity certificates. More than 1600 of them have been provided subsidized bank loans for self-employment. The officials of the district have been directed to provide certificates related to caste, income, permanent residence, bus concession etc on priority basis to these physically challenged persons.
