YSR lays stone for water supply scheme

Quenching thirst: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy laying the foundation to the Protected (Godavari) Water Supply Scheme at Kamareddy in Nizamabad district on Saturday.

KAMAREDDY (NIZAMABAD): The Protected (Godavari) Water Supply Scheme for which Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy laid the foundation here on Saturday will benefit the town and 281 villages. Once complete, it will provide drinking water to 7.09 lakh people.

The scheme, costing an estimated Rs.140 crore, being provided by Hudco as loan, will be a boon to eight backward mandals of Kamareddy, Biknoor, Domakonda, Machareddy, Tadwai, Sadasivanagar, Dichpally and Darpally.

The Chief Minister on the request of Minister Mohd. Ali Shabbir promised to extend the scheme to Lingampet and Gandhari mandals.

The scheme will have its tapping point on the backwaters of Sri Ram Sagar Project at Jalalpur village and will tap 9 tmcf of water for drinking purpose from the Godavari.

An intake well with 9 metre diameter will be built and the scheme is being so designed that water can be drawn even from dead storage level of the project. Two intermediate pumping stations will be built at Brahmanapally and Dichpally.

Filters with a capacity of 30 million litres per day will come up at Sadasivanagar.

Balancing reservoirs will be built on Mallannagutta for supply of 1.20 lakh litres of water to the town. It will also supply water to all other surrounding villages. The scheme will have 500 km. length of pipeline.

The Chief Minister announced that the scheme will be completed by March next. Tenders will be finalised and work will commence during the next two months.

Minister Mohd. Ali Shabbir said the scheme will solve the drinking water problem in the dry area of Kamareddy division.
