FOR A CAUSE: C. Govindarajan, president, Kannappa Nayanar Kan Dhana Prachara Maiyam, presenting pledge forms to Pudukottai Collector D. Uthirakkumaran
PUDUKOTTAI: An intensive street-corner campaign to motivate the masses on the importance of eye-donation has paid dividends. The campaign, organised jointly by Kannappa Nayanar Kan Dhaana Prachara Maiyam and State Bank of India, has evoked overwhelming response from members of the public, who have come forward to take a pledge on eye donation. The campaign, which started in September last, was conducted in different parts of the district and concluded a week ago. Heart-rending songs explaining the plight of visually disabled persons and the importance of eye donation, sung by T. Karthick, formed the highlight of the campaign. A total of 1,001 persons, including women, have submitted the pledge forms, expressing willingness to donate their eyes, said Maiyam president C. Govindarajan. He handed over the forms to Collector D. Uthirakkumaran in the presence of Chief Manager of State Bank V. Balasubramaniam and Mr. Karthick and other office-bearers of the Maiyam.
