BANGALORE: The State Budget for 2008-09 will be tabled in Parliament on March 7. Disclosing this to reporters in Bangalore on Saturday, Chief Secretary Sudhakar Rao said that the Budget will be tabled in Kannada, Hindi and English versions. It is being tabled in Parliament as President’s Rule has been enforced in the State. In another decision, the financial allocation for the beneficiaries of the rural Ashraya housing scheme has been increased by Rs. 5,000 in the State. A decision to this effect was taken on Saturday at a meeting of the State Executive Committee chaired by Governor Rameshwar Thakur. Mr. Rao told presspersons after the executive committee meeting, that with this, the total allocation for the rural Ashraya housing scheme will increase from the present Rs 25,000 to Rs. 30,000. However, the allocation under the urban Ashraya housing scheme has not been altered. The Executive Committee also gave its formal approval for replacing the Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell with the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). The KEA had commenced its operations recently. The new authority will hold the entrance examinations for professional courses from the academic year 2008-09. Referring to the move by the State Government to enforce rice levy order, the Chief Secretary said such a decision had been taken in the wake of instructions from the Centre to increase the rice storage.
