Attack on trader: four held

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police arrested four youth in connection with the attack on a provision shop owner at Kannettumukku junction late on Thursday.

The arrested were identified as “Koodam” Prakash, 26, Joby, 23, Kiran, 20, and Ratheesh, 20. The police said the suspects were local Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activists.

An official said a gang had assaulted Prakash on Thursday. In response, Prakash ordered all shop owners at Kannettummuku junction to down shutters and observe a hartal.

However, only a few traders heeded his demand.

According to the police, Prakash and his gang members arrived in an inebriated condition at Kannettumukku junction around 11 p.m.

Most shop owners had downed shutters by then. Only the provision store run by Gangadharan, 44, was open.

One of the gang members attacked the trader with a sword.
