NEW DELHI: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court has allowed Sanjeev Nanda, prime accused in the BMW hit-and-run case in which six persons including three policemen were killed in Delhi in the early hours of January 10, 1999, to go abroad. Granting permission, the special CBI court on Saturday also prescribed certain conditions for Nanda. It asked him to pay an additional security of Rs.2 lakh and also furnish information on the places he would visit during his stay abroad along with complete addresses. He has also been asked not to tamper with evidence. The permission has been granted for the period between March 1 and April 30. In his application seeking re-possession of his passport and permission to go abroad, Nanda said he wished to go to the United Kingdom, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore and Bangkok. He also told the court that he was a British citizen and that he had been allowed to go abroad earlier too. Further, Nanda told the court that he was not named in the FIR registered by the CBI against his father. The case pertained to alleged involvement of kickbacks in procurement of Barak missiles. The court also allowed Nanda to retain his passport on condition that he would join investigations whenever wanted by the CBI. Earlier, the CBI counsel told the court that he had no objection to Nanda’s passport being returned to him provided he furnished details of his visit. The CBI had, in a raid at his father Suresh Nanda’s residence in 2006 in connection with alleged kickbacks in the Barak missile deal case, seized Sanjeev Nanda’s passport along with the passports of the other accused.
