Good luck: Students appearing for the CBSE Class XII examination greeting each other before entering the examination hall at a centre in Bangalore on Saturday. BANGALORE: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examination for Class XII began on Saturday with students appearing for the Chemistry paper. Despite the changed pattern with emphasis on analytical skills, students The Hindu spoke to were happy with their performance. Siddharth Nair, student of The Oxford Senior Secondary School (CBSE), said that he felt “pretty okay” when he went through the question paper. “Later, I realised that there were some tough questions too. But, our teachers had taught us how to have a go at them, and at the end of the day, it is a satisfying feeling,” he said. His classmate Kiran N. Siddeshwar said he had solved many model question papers during study holidays and most of the expected questions were there in the Chemistry paper. “I felt uncomfortable initially as I tend to forget things. When I went through the question paper in detail, I felt happy. It seemed nothing was out of ordinary and most of the expected questions were there,” he said. Siddharth’s mother Anupama Ramesh said that though she was a bit tense in the morning, the feeling evaporated after she met his son in the afternoon. “I am confident he will do well in the board exams,” she said. L.S. Shyamsundar Sharma, senior principal of Sri Vani Education Centre and chairman of Bangalore Sahodaya Schools Complex, an association of private CBSE schools, said that they had conducted a common pre-board examination in all member schools on January 5. The school authorities later held a meeting with students and their parents only to analyse how students had fared in the pre-board exams.
