KOCHI: Chief Minister V.S.Achuthanandan has said that the government would ensure resettlement of those evicted from Moolampally. Talking to newspersons here on Saturday, he said a few officials had shown extra enthusiasm [to evict local people for the road connectivity component of the Vallarpadam project] after the Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary TKA Nair enquired about the status of the acquisition of land for the project. Asked whether there would be a package for the evictees, he said the government would consider it. Chandy’s versionMeanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy, addressing the evictees here on Saturday said that the UDF was not against the project, but would oppose violation of human rights. Steps like these were against the spirit of democracy, Mr. Chandy said. He added that attempts to label all protest measures against forced evictions as political extremism were deplorable.
