Unpleasant remarks

It is really remorseful to note that Rajahmundry MP Undavalli Arun Kumar has made unpleasant remarks against a noble personality like Babasaheb Ambedkar. An elite person holding a coveted post ought not to have blurted without thinking the pros and cons. Though Arun Kumar offered his unconditional apology, Lok Sabha Speaker should disqualify him. The belittling remarks against Ambedkar will definitely defame the name of a great personality.

No facilities at exam centres

The Intermediate Public Examinations are scheduled to commence from March 5. Accordingly, the officials are making arrangements for the examinations. But, in most of junior colleges, both government and private, especially located in the rural areas, most basic facilities such as drinking water and toilets are lacking. In the absence of toilets, the girl students are subjected to great hardship. In view of this, the authorities must take steps to provide basic facilities at the exam centres.

Farm loans

The small agriculturists in the State have been agitating for waiver of the loans. The government may look back into the history of granting loans. Under the alien rule during the 40s, agricultural (takkavi) loans were granted to the needy ryots under stipulated terms for short periods.

The revenue staff was entrusted the job of processing applications for loans in the event of natural calamities and loss of crop. These loans were recovered along with the tax. So, there is a need to grant agricultural loans liberally to deserving farmers.

Disappointing budget

The Railway Budget has certainly disappointed people of Khammam district. Projects like Bhadrachalam-Kovvur line and Pandurangapuram-Sarapaka line, which are pending for the last 25 years, have not found a place in this year’s budget.

The 150-km Bhadrachalam-Kovvur like with 21 stations en route, has yet to be completed. Similarly, Pandurangapuram-Sarapaka line too has been ignored. Local MPs have failed to prevail upon the Minister to take up these projects on priority.
