PUDUCHERRY: The Steering and Monitoring Committee of Scheduled Castes Sub-Plan of Puducherry called for separate allocation of funds from the annual plan of Rs.1,750 for the Scheduled Castes. Addressing a press conference on Friday, president of the committee N. Marimuthu said the government should allot Rs.283.32 crore as a separate budget from the annual plan for the Scheduled Castes. “Minister for Social Welfare M. Kandasamy planned to set up an engineering and revenue cell in the Adi Dravidar Welfare Department but Chief Minister N.Rangasamy had not approved it till date,” Mr. Marimuthu alleged. The committee said there were irregularities in the utilisation of Special Component Plan funds in the last 20 years. They would launch protests on March 18 in New Delhi and represent the case to Congress president Sonia Gandhi. “We will also stage a road roko on March 11 in Puducherry,” he added.
