Flowers given to law-abiding motorists at Survey Chowk ‘Next we’ll visit senior citizens to enquire about their safety’ DEHRA DUN: The cops generally known for frowning faces will now be seen greeting citizens with a smile, a flower and even a challan in case you violate any traffic laws here on the last day of every month. All this thanks to innovations being introduced by Uttarakhand Director-General of Police Subhash Joshi. “The effort is to inculcate the habit of abiding by the law among the people and to work with a smile among the policemen,” said Mr. Joshi as he handed out flowers to law-abiding motorists at Survey Chowk here over the weekend and his men smilingly handed out challans to 92 persons for riding two-wheelers without a helmet or carrying two persons on the pillion in some other parts of the city. Expressing satisfaction over the response received from all sections of society during the recent State-wide Police Visitors’ Week, Mr. Joshi said the police would soon undertake visits to schools and colleges to apprise the youth of the benefits of abiding by the law. “Next we will visit the senior citizen and enquire about their safety and welfare,” he said. The smiles and flowers from cops have been widely appreciated by local residents, especially youths, who felt that the “Munna Bhai” effect would go a long way in bridging the gap between the cops and the masses.
