Himachal Pradesh
Shimla: Residents of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s village, Prini in Himachal Pradesh, are up in arms against the Bhilwara group Hydro Power Company Allain Duhangan, alleging it had laid power lines through their fields at lower heights, posing a hazard and affecting apple trees. People of 12 panchayats, including Prini, under the banner of ‘Kisan Bagwan Kalyan Sangrash Samiti’, have been agitating on the issue, demanding that the administration order the company to change its transmission line route, Prini panchayat head Kundan Lal said on Sunday. Mr. Lal claimed the company has laid high voltage lines at a height much below the prescribed limit of 16 metres. He said if their demands were not met soon, the villagers would meet Mr. Vajpayee and request him to intervene in the matter. The company is laying transmission line from Prini to Swarghat for a 192 mw hydel power project. He alleged that despite several memoranda, the company has declined to talk to the villagers. — PTI
