Government did not put forth the case properly in high court: federation Retirement benefits sought for anganwadi workers and assistants DAVANGERE: H.K. Ramachandrappa, president of the Karnataka State Anganwadi Workers’ and Assistants’ Federation, has urged the Government to appeal before the divisional bench against the high court order on terminating the services of over 7,000 anganwadi workers, appointed in 2006. Mr. Ramachandrappa in a statement issued here on Sunday said that the Government was responsible for the stand taken by the high court on the issue. The Government did not put forth the case properly and explain the circumstances under which the anganwadi workers were recruited and how the Government had been implementing various schemes successfully with their help. Anganwadi workers were suffering since their services were terminated, he said. The federation said that it was the duty of the Government to retain all the anganwadi workers that it had recruited two years ago. InitiativeThe Government should take the initiative and appeal before the divisional bench against the high court order, it said. On the hike in the salaries of anganwadi workers by Rs. 500 and anganwadi assistants by Rs. 200, Mr. Ramachandrappa said this paltry hike was of no help. He said that cost of living was going up, and the paltry hike in the salary would in no way help anganwadi workers to lead a normal life. He demanded the Government further increase the salaries of the anganwadi workers and assistants and provide them retirement benefits on a par with government employees.
