Chitradurga: Former Minister C.M. Ibrahim has lauded the work of religious institutions that have taken up the cause of education in the State.

Speaking at the inauguration of 78th Mahashivaratri Mahotsav programme being organised by the Kabirananda Ashram here on Saturday, he said that these institutions had ensured education to children, mainly in the rural areas.

Mr. Ibrahim said, “We politicians are responsible for the fall in moral standards in society. Fortunately, religious heads are guiding society towards the righteous path.”

He advised the people, particularly the youth, to be inspired by religious leaders for a harmonious society.

In his address, judge of Karnataka High Court K. Sridhar Rao regretted that corruption was present in every sector including judiciary. He said that only society could find a remedy to this dangerous trend. The role of religious heads was vital in liberating the society from the menace of corruption, he said.

Addressing the gathering, Shivamurthy Shivacharya Swami of Taralabalu Math, stressed the need for preserving the legacy of brotherhood and harmony in society.

In the modern days, the significance of religious institutions had increased, he said.

Congress leader M.K. Tajpeer and retired professor of the Hampi University Lakshman Telgavi were present.

Terrorism condemned

Speaking to presspersons before the inauguration function, Mr. Ibrahim said the Muslim community would remain in the forefront in condemning terrorism.

Muslim clerics on many occasions had condemned terrorism in the country and elsewhere, he said. “In the anti-terrorism convention organised by the Darul Uloom Deoband recently, Muslim clerics and religious heads unanimously passed a resolution condemning all forms of terrorism,” he said.

Referring to the arrest of suspected terrorists in the State, he said when the terror suspects were detained the news was flashed in the media, but the news of their release after interrogation was not highlighted, he said.
