NEW DELHI: Acknowledging the fact that jhuggi-jhonpri clusters in the Capital’s NDMC areas are not getting any attention, the civic body has now decided to spring into action for their improvement. Within a period of 14 days, the NDMC plans to boost the basic infrastructure and sanitation requirements in the clusters with special attention on sanitation, cleanliness of the toilets and drains, hand pumps, water availability and removal of sewer blockages among other things. The areas covered in this special drive would include Anant Ram Dairy, Netaji Nagar Cement Godown, Laxmibai Nagar, Shaheed Arjun Das Camp, Shankar Camp, Moti Bagh, Sanjay Camp, Bapu Dham, Bengali Camp, Kidwai Nagar, D-II Flats East Kidwai Nagar, Shanti Vihar, Moti Bagh East and Dhobi Ghat. FacilitiesElaborating on the scheme, an NDMC official said; “Though we provide all possible facilities in these clusters, some problems such as shortage of water are always there. By undertaking this drive we want to address all such problems in a focussed way rather than tackling them on a routine complaint basis.” Inspections“This special drive will be followed by inspections to assess whether the work has been carried out satisfactorily or not,” he added.
