Frontier area: Students engrossed in Making Robos at GITAM’s INTERFACE-08 in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. VISAKHAPATNAM: As part of the two-day Techno-Management meet, Interface-08, being held at GITAM, a national-level paper presentation event was held on Sunday. Over 300 students from various engineering colleges within the State and from other states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa presented various technical papers. The event was named as ‘Technocrat’ and a variety of topics like energy trends, bio-informatics and bio-medical instrumentation; fuzzy logic and advanced microprocessor architecture were touched by the students. The annual event is being conducted by the Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, GITAM University, and for the first time a workshop in robotics was conducted. Robotic kits were provided to the participants and over 200 students showcased their creativity in creating different forms of robots. The robotic event was held in collaboration with Bangalore-based Bangalore Robotics- Docel Radio Research. Platform for youthThe Head of the Department D. Elizabath Rani said that for many budding engineers this was the first opportunity to build a robot and compete with others. “The robotic workshop, which was part of the main event, Interface, was designed to create a platform for learning and putting it into practice immediately. It was nice to see the young engineers working feverishly in tandem to build robots using various tools and logic to compete for the top honours,” she said. Various other events like future spect, contraptions, Q-time, industry defined problems and creatus were held during the two-day meet. “The knowledge gained here will surely help the students to compete for various competitive exams like GRE and GATE,” said the student convenor, R. Vamsi Krishna.
