Excise Department haul

BANGALORE: In a series of raids all over the State in February, the Excise Department confiscated goods and liquor valued at Rs. 18,49,550 and arrested 11 persons, according to a press release from the department here today.

The raids were conducted in Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, Tumkur, Chitradurga, Hassan, Chikmagalur, Mandya, Mysore, Haveri, Dharwad, Bellary, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Bijapur and Bagalkot districts. They have filed 10 serious cases and 33 general cases. They confiscated 20.88 litres of liquor, 389.04 litres of spurious liquor, 170.8 litre of rectified spirit, 7.9 litres of beer and 45 litres of illicit liquor.

They have also destroyed 4,600 litres of molasses. Two lorries, two mini vans and one car were seized.

In another raid in Anekal taluk (Bangalore Rural) the Excise Department officials confiscated goods valued at Rs. 4.75 lakh and destroyed storage facilities and stock of molasses in a paddy field in Arehalli village.

The total value of the haul was estimated at Rs. 774,975, according to a release here today.
