Huge draw for ‘3K Run’

ANANTAPUR: “We the citizens of Anantapur commit ourselves on the occasion of ‘3K Run’ to fight corruption which has become a major hurdle in the process of development of the district” the exhibition grounds echoed these words as the huge gathering of a cross-section of the society took the oath before flagging off the run here on Sunday.

Persons of all ages from 8 to 80, from all walks of life started gathering at the break of the dawn for the first ever such run organised for a cause.

Speaking on the occasion, District Collector N. Sridhar said he was overwhelmed by the response from the society to join the cause of fight against corruption which the district administration had launched about eight months ago. The tremendous response to the run had inspired him further to wage a war against corruption, he said.

He stated that the administration would chalk out more programmes against corruption with the cooperation of the society. He urged the people to continue this spirit and oppose corruption in any form throughout life. Superintendent of Police M.S. Raveendra said corruption was spreading its tentacles in different forms and only a collective struggle could see an end to it.

Zilla Parishad Chairperson T. Kavitha, Anantapur MP A. Venkatarami Reddy and legislator B. Narayana Reddy suggested the people to move united against corruption and follow honesty in their lives. Mayor R. Parasuram, legislators G. Jayalaxmamma, P. Raghunatha Reddy, Vice Chancellor of Sri Krishnadevaraya University A. Rama Rao, Joint Collector T. Chiranjeevulu also participated in the run.
