VISAKHAPATNAM: It was a walkathon with a difference. Hundreds of employees of HSBC Global Resourcing turned up on the beach road on Sunday morning to participate in the event to raise cash for a noble cause. Over 300 people took part in the walkathon aimed to generate funds to support the under-privileged children.

The five-km walkathon conducted from Hotel Park to Kali Temple was flagged off by Commissioner of Police N. Sambasiva Rao. Amidst the regular morning walkers of the Beach road, the euphoric group started off on the mission to accomplish the five-km stretch of walk.

Sponsors

While many of them got glued to the mobile phones as they started the walk, there were some who set out single-mindedly to finish the goal. Volunteers at different spots along the stretch helped to lift up the spirits of the participants by providing them with water packets. For every km an employee walks, a friend or a relative could sponsor any specified amount.

An HSBC spokesman said over the next 12 months, HSBC Group Service Centre plans to utilise the funds raised towards the cause of education and support of the underprivileged children, increase awareness and support for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
