dated March 3, 1958: People’s welfare

Prime Minister Nehru, while unveiling a double life size statue of Jamsetji Tata, founder of the steel industry in India, in Jamshedpur on March 1, said that whatever may be the differences between the private and public sectors, it should not be forgotten that they both aimed at promoting the welfare of the people and must be known as the people’s sector. Mr. Nehru paid glowing tributes to Jamsetji Tata and described him as one of the founders of modern India. Sixty or seventy years ago when the people of India were suffering from frustration due to the cruel suppression of India’s first freedom struggle Jamsetji Tata began to think of a big scheme which gradually took shape.
