dated March 3, 1958: India’s foreign policy

Dr. Wilhelm Melchers, German Ambassador to India, in a press interview in Bombay on March 1, said that it was his primary duty to interpret India correctly to his Government in Bonn and represent the German point of view properly to the Government of India. Dr. Melchers said, “We Germans, could well appreciate the policy of neutrality and non-alignment adopted by India. I assure you that I will get my Government and the people to understand the difficulties you are facing and hope that we would be of help and assistance to you.” Dr. Melchers said that Germany would contribute its share to the fullest extent, along with India, for the maintenance of peace in the world.
