This Day That Age
G. Sobers, 21 year old West Indian cricketer, scored the highest ever Test innings on the fourth day of the third Test against Pakistan in Kingston (Jamaica) on March 1. He reached 365 not out to beat the twenty year old record of 364 by Leonard Hutton of England against Australia at the Oval, London, in 1938. Sobers, left-handed all rounder, passed the record, in about three hours less than Sir Leonard Hutton’s time of 13 hours 20 minutes. This is the second world record to be broken in the series. Sir Leonard’s innings was the longest ever until the first Test in this series at Barbados when Pakistan’s Hanif Mohammad, 24 year old opening batsman, hit 337 in 16 hours and 13 minutes.
