Don’t close Begumpet airport

The imminent closure of Begumpet airport would pose several problems to the public. There is no doubt that when convenience of air travel is considered Shamsabad is no match for Begumpet as the main reason for air travel is to save time.

By closing Begumpet and opening Shamsabad airport the Hyderabadis are all set to lose a better facility and in the bargain get something less convenient. The authorities should remember that airports are public utilities where public convenience is paramount. While permitting private airports the government should ensure that public interest is not compromised for the profit motive of the private developer.

Violating rights

The news that single beds have been converted into double beds in private buses is quite shocking.

The reported news that a woman passenger was allotted a bed while a male passenger was allotted the next bed is too unnerving for words. The gutsy woman complained to commissioner Poonam Malakondaiah who took immediate action. One is surprised how such an incident was not detected by the subordinate staff of the transport officials. The State Woman Commission too is requested to look into the issue.

Tinted films

Apropos the news item ‘Tinted films: notices to owners’ (The Hindu dt 19-02-08), I would like to request the RTA and the police authorities to clearly differentiate between the totally dark tinted films and transparent tinted films before slapping challan on law abiding car-owners. They should also spare those cars wherein the side window glasses are not closed. But how about taking action against autorickshaws that are totally closing the rear windows which is also against the rules.
