Promise to tackle water shortage

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Water Authority will take immediate steps to tackle shortage of drinking water at Goureesapattom, Murinjapalam, Kavuvila, Saphalyam and Kesavadasapuram, G. Sudev, Executive Engineer, Public Health Division, Thiruvananthapuram, of the authority, has said.

He was participating in the Maithri Suraksha meeting of residents’ associations in Medical College Police Station limits here on Sunday. Participants at the meeting asked him to make the functioning of the agency’s emergency helpline number more efficient. Representatives of the associations demanded that functioning of the helpline of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) also be made more efficient. Many participants said that it was during the days when the Assembly was in session that many burglaries took place in the medical college area. Policemen appointed for special duty were often seen whiling away their time listening to the radio, participants said.

Others voiced the complaint that officials of the Public Works Department installed speed-breakers on roads without consulting the traffic police. Some residents’ association representatives asked the police officials to remove speed- breakers from the Mulavana-Thekkummood road. Suresh Kumar, Circle Inspector, Medical College, said round-the-clock patrolling on motorbikes and vans would be introduced.
