Fresh case of polio reported
New Delhi: A fresh case of polio was reported in the capital with a 14-month-old girl from Bihar falling prey to the dreaded disease.
Gulnaz, a resident of Darbhanga colony of west Delhi’s Zakira locality was diagnosed with the disease at Kirti Nagar’s MCD hospital, health officials said. It is reported that the family migrated from Bihar recently. The child is afflicted with the deadly P1 strain of polio. “This is worrisome since the focus of the immunisation campaign has been on containing the P1 strain,” a senior health official said. The gene frequencing of the virus would be completed within a month then we would come to know the exact source, he added.
