“No place for middlemen”

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday exhorted people to “beat up the dalals (middlemen)” who come in the way of Government works and prevent the benefits of various policies from reaching the people. Speaking at a public meeting in Ali Vihar, Ms Dikshit also urged the women and other residents to stand up for their rights and report those officials and shopkeepers to the Government who prevent the Public Distribution System rations from reaching them.

Since some women also complained of inflated power bills, Ms Dikshit asked them to submit a copy with her and assured that all irregularities would be rectified. She also assured the women who charged that they were not getting grains and kerosene under the Public Distribution System that the officials and shopkeepers involved in illegal practices would be punished.

“I am also available on the phone 24 hours a day,” she declared .
