Action plan for tenant ryots

Only for those not benefited by debt relief in budget: CM

Only 60 lakh of 1.15 cr. ryots to benefit from debt waiver

‘39 lakh ryots got crop loans during Congress rule’

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has said that the Government was seriously looking into ways and means to help tenant farmers, who have not benefited following debt relief announced by Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram in the budget.

“Out of the 1.15 crore farmers in the State, only 60 lakh will benefit from the debt waiver but there is a large chunk, which is still to get any benefit,” Dr. Reddy remarked addressing a rally of AP Youth Congress workers and farmers, who called on him at his residence on Sunday.

After the Congress government came to power in 2004, 39 lakh new farmers got an opportunity to take crop loans. But, the Government has not been able to look into the interests of tenant farmers, who are still awaiting crop loans. “It is towards this goal that the Government is planning to come out with an action plan exclusively for the tenant farmers,” Dr. Reddy pointed out.
