ALAPPUZHA: The police escort of Defence Minister A.K. Antony lost its way and travelled 4 km away from the destination here on Sunday. The Police department has ordered a probe into the incident. According to the police, Mr. Antony was on his way to unveil a bust of revolutionary leader K.C.S. Mani at Thakazhi near Ambalapuzha here. The police escort, which took over from Kayamkulam and led the way for the Defence Minister’s convoy, should have taken a right turn at the Ambalapuzha junction. Instead, it went straight along the National Highway-47 up to Vandanam, around 4 km away, when Mr. Antony himself noticed that the venue had passed. The convoy then took a U-turn and returned to the Ambalapuzha junction from where Mr. Antony headed for the venue.
