ICF beats Indian Bank

CHENNAI: Integral Coach Factory (ICF) overwhelmed Indian Bank 5-3 in the MIOT-Chennai Hockey Association senior division super league championship at the SDAT-Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here on Sunday.

Indian Bank was quickly off the blocks scoring two goals in six minutes with Alfred Aseer and Raja finding the target.

ICF, too, was quick to react. It replaced goalkeeper Alex David with Udya Kumar. The frontline began to roll like a well-oiled machine. Sarath Babu’s deft backhander took goalkeeper Peter Nathan by surprise in a penalty corner conversion.

Soon, Vivek’s neat scoop off a corner enabled ICF to equalise. From then on, it was ICF all the way.

Counter-attack

In a quick counter-attack, Karthick rushed in and his pass to Ramesh Babu, who was nicely placed, resulted in a goal. At half-time, ICF led 3-2.

Sathish Kumar’s drive off a penalty corner saw Vinoth Kumar dive in front to push it home in a melee.

Indian Bank did have its moments especially with Raja as the finisher. His class was all evident throughout the match. A fine deflection by the international from the edge of the circle gave the bank team its third goal.

Frequent sallies

ICF kept up the pressure and its frequent sallies did unnerve Indian Bank. Vivek sounded the boards off a corner to make it 5-3. With a minute to go for the hooter, Indian Bank was awarded a stroke, but Aseer messed it up.

The result: ICF (Sarath Babu, Vivek 2, Ramesh Babu, Vinoth Kumar) bt Indian Bank 3 (V. Raja 2, Alfred Aseer).
