MSU rallies to down AG’s

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Madras Sporting United came back from arrears to swamp AG’s Office 5-2 in the final match for both teams in the CFA senior division league at the Nehru Stadium on Sunday.

MSU finished with 15 points and AG’s tallied 11 points.

MSU had taken the led in the 25th minute through its Nigerian recruit John Chigaco, who headed in a flag-kick taken by Balamuurugan. Soon AG’s had a lucky escape when Ravikumar failed to convert a penalty. The spot kick was given after Chigaco was brought down in the box by P.G. Saravanan.

AG’s equalised through Muthu off a pass from Ragupathy in the 39th minute and took the lead in the 52nd minute when Ragupathy volleyed in a flag kick taken by Antony.

Flurry of goals

From there MSU opened the flood gates with Chigaco equalising (53rd) and thereafter Balamurugan (71st), Marikani (73rd) and Vimalrajan (76th) completing the rout.

Earlier in the play off for the first division title, DB Annai Youth defeated Southern Railway 2-0. Ashok Kumar and Shyju were the scorers. Both teams have qualified for next season’s senior division.
