PUDUCHERRY: Students of Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School seemed to be on a winning spree, as they bagged a number of prizes in several competitions and sports events held recently. A student of Standard IV, A. Subramanian participated in the second south India yogasana open championship and bagged the first place in the balance event. He also won the second place in the backward event and third in the common event. The championship was organised by the Tamil Nadu Federation and Yoga Cultural Society. Kuzhandaigal Kalai Illakiya Valarchi Kazhagam conferred the title ‘Siruvar Kalai Sigaram’ on S.P. Balaraman, a student of Standard X, for his talent of writing Tamil poems, short stories and essays. In the Puducherry State Level Taekwondo Championship 2008, student of Standard V K. Raghav Prasad Kumaram won the gold medal in the middle weight category. It was conducted by the Puducherry Taekwondo Association. The school also conducted an inter-house cultural competition on ‘Become the best that you can become’. The primary school students were taken to visit select places in and around Puducherry. Teacher awardedPhysics lecturer of Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School P. Anthony Vincent Raj won the ‘best science teacher’ award of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Puducherry. He received the award from Chief Minister N. Rangasamy. The ‘young scientist award’ was presented to R. Venkata Ganesh for scoring centum in physics in the Standard XII examination in 2007. A prize distribution function was organised in the school on the sports day on February 29. Superintendent of Police (north) V. Vijayakumar participated in the function. Students of Standard VII Arokia Ronaldo and Clement won the mini sub-junior championship, while Nagaraj and Harish of Standard VIII bagged the sub-junior championship. Raja Prasannakumar and B. Vinoth of Standard X, and Ramkumar of Standard IX won the junior championship. The senior championship was bagged by Balakrishnan of Standard XII and Neil Foster of Standard XI. In VelloreMembers of the Sunbeam Astronomy Club in Sunbeam Matriculation Higher Secondary School, enjoyed viewing the night sky through telescopes during their annual stargazing session in the second and third week of February.
