Seminar on biodiversity today

VALANCHERY: The Oriole Nature Club of M.E.S. Keveeyam College here will organise a seminar on biodiversity conservation and sustainable development on Tuesday. The seminar, to be held in association with the Kerala State Biodiversity Board, will be held at the college auditorium.

C.A. Abdul Basheer, project officer of the Periyar Tiger Reserve, will inaugurate the seminar.

About 100 students and teachers from neighbouring colleges are expected to attend the seminar.

The seminar will focus on creation of awareness on biodiversity conservation among students, said Husain Randathani, principal of M.E.S. Keveeyam College.

Kishore Kumar, executive member of the Malabar Natural History Society, will talk on shoal forests and their conservational importance. D. Vijayakumar from the Department of Zoology, NSS College, Manjeri, will talk on wetland biodiversity. T.P. Padmanabhan will talk about students’ role in conservation programmes.
