Staff Reporter

VAZHAKKAD: Protecting and uplifting the orphans is the responsibility of a sensible society, said young Islamic scholar Panakkad Sayed Abbasali Shihab Thangal. He was inaugurating a convention of Islamic scholars held as part of the anniversary celebrations of Elamaram Yatheemkhana here on Monday.

Panakkad Sayed Basheerali Shihab Thangal, the eldest son of Panakkad Sayed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal, inaugurated the special prayer congregation. He said religious education should be given equal importance as temporal education to overcome the traps of modernism.

Sayed Mohammed Jifri Muthukoya Thangal, Kazi of Kanhangad, led the ‘swalat’ and ‘dikr’ prayers.

K.V. Mohammed Husain, secretary of the Yatheemkhana, presided over the function. Abdullah Baqavi, Kazi of Vazhakkad; M. Mohammed Musliar, principal of the Yatheemkhana spoke.
