Naxals torture villagers

Malkangiri (Orissa): Six villagers, including a sarpanch, were kidnapped and tortured allegedly by Maoists, police said today.

The six were taken away by armed naxals from their village Janatapai under Paparmetla gram panchayat near here on Saturday suspecting them to be police informers, they said. A cangaroo court was conducted by the ultras and all the six were found guilty, the sources said adding the villagers were severely beaten up and released yesterday with a warning that the incident should not be informed to the police. Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Satish Kumar Gajbhiye said that though “Nobody has lodged any FIR in this regard, investigation into the incident is on.”

The villagers, who sustained injuries due to assault by the ultras, did not inform the matter to the police and were being treated in private nursing home apprehending torture by naxalites. -PTI
