Call for collective efforts for implementation of NREGS

Staff Reporter

Each one of the families would be provided employment for 100 days

Kakinada: District Collector M. Subrahmanyam said the number of families covered under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) would reach 50,000 by the end of March 2008. Each one of the families would be provided employment for 100 days.

Most of the families would benefit from the repair and maintenance works of minor irrigation tanks under Indiramma scheme (total of 296 tanks were targeted to be developed whereas works on 148 tanks commenced).

Speaking at a review meeting here on Monday, Subrahmanyam said all the officials concerned should make collective efforts for effective implementation of the NREGS which is the Central Government’s flagship project aimed at generating wage employment.

Subrahmanyam instructed the designated engineers to regularly monitor the manner of NREGS works to ensure that quality is not neglected and the beneficiaries got their dues. No derelict official or engineer would be spared, the collector warned.

District Water Management Agency Project Director Amarendra Kumar and other district officials took part in the deliberations.
