BERHAMPUR: Five persons were killed when a mini bus fell into a ditch from Chakapada ghat road in Kandhmal district on Monday. The mini bus was carrying passengers from Chakapada to Tikabali. According to officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Tikabali police station, Ranjan Mallik, the driver of the minibus lost control when its front axle broke down. Two persons were killed on the spot. Police teams from Tikabali and Chakapada rushed to the spot to rescue the passengers. Some 25 persons were injured. They were shifted to the Tikabali hospital. Two of the injured persons died at the hospital. Tension prevailed on the hospital campus following the deaths as doctors and medical staff were not present when the injured were brought to the hospital. However, the police at the hospital managed to pacify the angry mob. Five seriously injured passengers were shifted to the MKCG Medical College in Berhampur. By evening one of them died. Four of the dead were identified. They were Purushottam Mallik, Biranchi Mallik, Sananda Naik and Laxman Naik.
