‘Rahul Gandhi likely to visit Hassan’

Staff Correspondent

HASSAN: “All-India Youth Congress president and All-India Congress Committee general secretary Rahul Gandhi will tour the State for five days from March 7. A visit to Hassan is also on the cards,” said Karnataka Youth Congress Committee president Krishna Byre Gowda.

Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, he said Mr. Gandhi’s visit had nothing to do with the coming elections in the State, as his tour had been fixed four months ago.

The purpose of his visit was to rally the youth, he said. After Mr. Gandhi assumed charge as All-India Youth Congress president, he had been touring various States. Mr. Byre Gowda said that details of his tour would be worked out after his arrival.Mr. Byre Gowda described the Union Budget as excellent and the loan waiver as historic. When his attention was drawn to the fact that Karnataka too had waived Rs. 2,300 crore of farmers’ loans, he said this was not true.

In Karnataka, only Rs. 600 crore had been waived and another Rs. 1,600 crore was yet to be waived, Mr. Byre Gowda said.
