CHIKMAGALUR: S.M. Krishna, Governor of Maharashtra, said here on Monday that the former Chief Minister, Kadidal Manjappa, played a major role in the implementation of land reforms in the State. Inaugurating the birth centenary celebrations of Mr. Manjappa, Mr. Krishna said the former Chief Minister was responsible for the impetus that the land reforms movement received in the State during the 1950s. HurdlesPointing out that land reforms was a widely discussed topic at that time, he said that Mr. Manjappa, who believed in Gandhian philosophies, had to overcome a number of hurdles to achieve his objective. K.L. Manjunath, judge of the Karnataka High Court, recalled that Mr. Manjappa served as an advocate after retiring from politics. B.L. Shankar, former Chairman of the legislative council, and C.M.S. Shastry, former MLA, spoke.
