PUDUCHERRY: Copies of the chargesheet in a case registered by the Anti-Corruption wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of Chennai had been handed over to former Chief Engineer of Public Works Department C.Anandane, his wife Vijayalakshmi and son Ashok Anandane. According to CBI sources, the case was registered in January 2006 under section 120(B) of the Indian Penal Code and Sec 13(2) read with 13 (1) (e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 “for the suspected offence of criminal conspiracy and possession of disproportionate assets and taken up for investigation”. Copies of the chargesheet which ran to more than 2000 pages were furnished to Mr.Anandane, his wife and son who appeared before Chief Judge of Puducherry D.Krishnaraja. The case was posted for March 25 for next hearing when charges would be framed, the sources said. Mr.Anandane, who was under a cloud for sometime now, was transferred and placed in compulsory wait on February 29. Different political parties had demanded action against him. PMC welcomesPresident of the Puducherry Munnetra Congress P.Kannan has welcomed the transfer of Mr.Anandane. The action against the erstwhile Chief Engineer of the PWD was a “big success for the sustained agitation launched by the PMC”, he said in a statement.
