THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Travancore Devaswom Board headquarters here witnessed noisy scenes on Monday as a section of the employees protested against president C.K. Guptan for issuing a suspension order to an assistant finance officer for failing to comply with his directive. Mr. Guptan issued the order to assistant finance officer M.Satish Kumar for allegedly refusing to pay salary and other benefits to a Vigilance officer as per his directive and handover charge to deputy commissioner Balagangadharan. The employees gathered before the president’s chamber and demanded repeal of the order. They staged a sit-in and shouted slogans. Representatives of the employees held talks with the president, but it did not yield any result as he refused to budge. A minor altercation between two groups of employees took place outside Mr. Guptan’s chamber. Board member P.K. Sumathikutty Amma who reached the office offered to intervene in the issue. She told the employees that the order without the ratification of the full board would not have validity. The issue would be discussed with another board member P.Narayanan too, she said. The employees who were getting ready for an agitation then dispersed. Employees owing allegiance to the Congress, CPI and the RSP decided to observe ‘black day’ on Tuesday in protest against the suspension order.
