Class XII students welcome extra time

Staff Reporter

“I could relax and read the question paper slowly”

Five cases of malpractice recorded

CHENNAI: The State Government’s decision to provide additional 10 minutes’ time to students appearing for the public examination was welcomed by Class XII students who took their first paper, Language, on Monday.

“I could relax and read the question paper slowly. I think the extra time will be more useful for subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics,” said S. Latha, a student who took the examination at a centre in T. Nagar.

Students said the question paper was fairly easy with no big surprises.

Malpractices

A total of five cases of malpractice were recorded on day one of the HSC (Class XII) examination. One student in Tirunelveli, one in Vellore and three candidates in Villupuram were caught attempting to copy from notes they carried.

Sources in the Directorate of Government Examinations said the student caught in Vellore appeared for the examination as a private candidate while the others went to schools in the respective districts.

Officials said students were asked to leave the examination hall immediately after they were caught indulging in the malpractice. The decision on when these candidates could take the same subject again would be taken after the investigation, they said.
