Thevar statue damaged

RAJAPALAYAM: Tension prevailed at Sankaralingapuram near here following damage to a statue of Muthuramalinga Thevar on Monday.

A posse of police personnel has been deployed in the village following the incident.

K. Jayanth Murali, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Madurai Range), who is camping at the village, pacified the villagers with an assurance that the culprits would be brought to book soon.

The Virudhunagar Superintendent of Police, T. Senthil Kumar, and the Revenue Divisional Officer, B. Ganesan, also held talks with the villagers.

“Though we are yet to get any clue, we hope to get a breakthrough soon,” Mr. Murali said. Finger prints had been lifted and sniffer dogs were pressed into service.
